Rabbits need plenty of space to explore! Indoors is the safest place to keep them away from predators, bugs and in the AC! A metal puppy playpen that is at least 2x3m large is enough space for your rabbit’s litter box, bowls, toys and space to play. This playpen should have a rug under it in case your rabbit isn’t toilet trained or has an accident. Your rabbit should always have access to somewhere with flooring they can have a grip on because tiles, vinyl and wood flooring can cause splayed legs (plus a lot of rabbits don’t like cold surfaces!). Free roaming time should also be given. Ensure your room/s are rabbit-proofed, meaning there are no toxic plants in the room and all cords are protected or out of your rabbit’s reach (they can and will go under and behind furniture for that spicy hay!). If you have other pets make sure they do not go into your rabbit’s main living space and when they are with your rabbit they are supervised.
Your rabbit’s setup should have a litter box with a hay rack above it and their bowls beside or in their litter box. This helps with toilet training because rabbits poop right after eating. Interactive toys such as activity walls, tunnels, igloos and stacking cups should be provided but with enough space left so they can still do their zoomies. Ensure that your rabbit can not escape their ex-pen when they are not supervised by not leaving things such as igloos and huts on the edge of their playpen. If your rabbit jumps out of their playpen you can add a blanket to the top of their pen to discourage them from jumping. Rabbits are super rewarding pets that when given the right amount of space and time make the best house bunnies!
